“Bloody heat!” McNair complained as he let himself into the B+B only to find Annie standing there, a bottle of beer in her hand and a smile on her face.
“Sorry,” he said.
Annie rolled her eyes at him. Him apologising for every little bit of bad language was wearing thin, especially since most of his so called bad language didn’t even register. “I’ve told you, stop apologising! Or at least swear properly and make it worth it!”
“Sorry, it’s just now we’ve got a girl around, not just a girl, but a very nice, respectable girl I think Tom and I should be more careful.”
“I’m not a nice girl, McNair,” she reminded him, handing over the bottle, letting her fingers graze against his knuckles.
“Well I think you’re a very nice-”
“Would nice girls spend all day thinking about what they were going to do to you once you got home?” she asked.
McNair swallowed hard, taking a sip of his beer as if that might help him calm down a bit. “Annie,” he managed.
“Tony,” she replied, completely unrepentant.
He reached up to rub the back of his neck. It was far too hot to be blushing, or to be taking part in whatever it was Annie had in mind, he was sure. “Least let me take a shower first. Nice girl or not you deserve a clean man. Plus it’ll help me cool down, it’s so hot out there when you’re carrying huge bags of concrete around.”
“Were you topless?” she asked. “Cos you know I don’t have a lot to do during the day when my boys are out. I could always nip down, watch you working? Make sure you’re okay.”
“You’d get me sacked, or locked up for reacting to things no one else can see,” he pointed out,
“I’d be good,” she assured him.
“No you wouldn’t.”
“I’d try.” She turned away, starting towards the stairs before she paused to look back at him. “Where’s Tom?”
“Oh I told him he could come back later, that he should enjoy himself.”
She smiled a bit too widely at that. “So we’ve got the place to ourselves for a bit?”
“I suppose,” he agreed, not moving.
“Tony,” she said, leaning against the wall halfway up the stairs. “Come on. Let me show you what I came up with while you were busy working hard to put food on the table.”
“Aye, okay,” he agreed, following behind her.
“I really should take a shower,” he protested as he following her in his room, well their room really, only Annie didn’t sleep so…”You only changed these yesterday and-”
Again she cut him off. This time by pressing her lips against his.
He shivered against her at the sensation. It was something he never quite got used to.“That’s better than a cold beer any day,” he said as she pulled away.
“Yeah?” she said looking pretty pleased with herself. “Then you’re gonna love what I’ve got in mind.”
Reaching down she pulled off his dirty vest, casting it to the side. She could see the sweat still damp on his body and bit her lip.
“You could look for a proper job,” she told him. “Something with air conditioning and a real paycheck and National Insurance and all that. Now you’ve got a home.”
“I’ve been doing this stuff for over twenty years, one hot day isn’t going to stop me. I’m fine, Annie. A nice cold shower, a change of clothes and I’ll be good as new. Promise.”
“You can shower after.”
“After what?” he asked.
Annie dipped her head, kissing his neck gently, moving her way down his shoulder.
He shivered again.
“Someone once said kissing me was like kissing someone that’d come in from the cold. So I started thinking…”
Someone. That was code for Mitchell but if she wasn’t going to bring him up he definitely wasn’t.
“These are going to have to go,” she told him, her cool hands moving to the waistband of his shorts. “And what’s underneath.”
McNair couldn’t help but smile as he did as she said, undressing himself and standing there naked in front of her.
“On the bed.”
“Annie, really, the sheets.”
“Fuck the sheets, Tone. Do you know how bored I get when you and Tom are asleep? It’ll give me something to do, now get on the damn bed before I remind you how much not a nice girl I am.”
McNair nodded. It didn’t matter what she said she’d always be a nice girl to him, even if she was killing vampires and sending ghosts back to Hell. Even when she was saying things like that. As far as he and Tom were concerned she was an angel, just one of those Old Testament ones some of the time. He knew when not to argue though, which was all the time.
He laid back on the bed, propping himself up on his elbows as he watched her.
“Close your eyes.”
When he opened them again Annie was laying beside him, in nowhere near as many clothes as she’d been wearing before.
“You...I didn’t...this is new,” he stammered.
Annie kissed him quickly again, the tingle sending a shiver down his spine. “I’ve been practicing,” she admitted. “For...far too long actually.”
“Do I want to know how you managed it?” he asked.
Annie bit her lip, the very picture of coy. “Well, you know how my clothes sort of change a bit depending on what kind of mood I’m in or whatever? Well it seems it I concentrate really, really hard on what it’d be like sleeping with you, I mean….properly, I can convince my ghostly clothes I don’t need quite so many of them and voila! Almost naked Annie.”
She looked so pleased with herself, laying there in her bra and shorts. They weren’t sexy or anything. Just grey cotton in keeping with her more usual outfit, but McNair was never going to be fussy about that kind of thing. She still looked more beautiful than anyone he had any right to be seeing. “You look gorgeous,” he told her. “You always do but…wow!”
Annie shrugged, beaming across at him. “I just figured more skin more to help cool you down.”
“The kissing was working pretty nicely,” he admitted.
“Oh the kissing won’t be stopping,” she assured him. “It’ll just be along with some other things.”
“Like?” He wasn’t sure why he’d asked, the word had just come out of its own accord.
“Why don’t you just lie back and you’ll find out?” she suggested.
“Yeah. That’d work,” he agreed.
Annie was literally weightless on top of him. It was something he could never quite get used to. He could feel her, feel the coldness of her skin radiating from her and soaking into his own heated flesh. He could even put his arm around her, touch her, kiss her. But in some ways it was like she just wasn’t there. Which of course she wasn’t, not really. And he was used to the temperature of her body, at least so he didn’t shudder and tense when their skin touched but this was different. There’d never been this much skin on skin contact and he’d never been so hot before.
He kissed her more deeply than usual, enjoying the coldness of her lips and the inside of her mouth, trying to leech it from her body into his own, trying to warm her own up while her cold hands moved along his arms, her legs tangling with his before she pulled back, breathless despite being dead. It was weird the things the body clung to.
“This, wasn’t quite what I had planned,” she admitted.
McNair smiled. “Then show me,” he said letting go of her.
Annie moved back to his side, leaning over to kiss him more gently, her fingertips tracing delicate lines over his chest. “How’s that?”
“Nice. More...precise.”
She shifted just a little as she moved her way down his body, kissing and sucking against his skin as he shivered under her, small moans of pleasure escaping him every so often. As her lips found his lower stomach though he froze, making Annie look up, her hand against his thigh.
“Too far?” she asked.
“I’m not sure just...bit more sensitive, you know and we’ve never…”
Annie dipped her head again, placing a kiss along his happy trail. “I can stop. I mean, don’t suppose it’s exactly conducive to…y’know.”
Staying hard. Yes he knew. It was both surprising and annoying how often he seemed to manage it though, but admittedly she’d never been this close before.
“That what this is about, Annie?” It wasn’t like they could do much when he was hard, which, he was, incidentally. How could he not be with Annie’s lips and fingers all over him? But they’d been down this road just a few too many times before and it always left them both incredibly frustrated even if she could do things to him, it just wasn’t quite the same.
“No,” she sighed, moving to lay next to him, placing her cold hand over his heart. “I just thought it’d be nice.”
“And it was,” he assured her. “It always is. All of it, it’s just…” he trailed off. She didn’t need the guilt trip and he really didn’t want to be the one to send her on it.
“We’ll work it out,” she promised. “One day.” Course she’d still be freezing cold, outside and in. Maybe it was just better this way.
“Why don’t you try it?” he asked. “While it’s already way too hot and while you’re…”
“Down there,” she finished for him. “Are you sure?” she asked.
“The worst that can happen is I’ll go soft, and since we can’t exactly do anything anyway…” he shrugged. She was way too close to his erection for him to even pretend to be a gentleman right now.
Annie smiled up at him, she hadn’t done this since she’d been alive and even then she hadn’t been the biggest fan but that was more to do with Owen than anything else. Wrapping her hand around him McNair hissed at the sensation as the cold seemed to grip him like a vice. Instantly she let go of him and pulled back.
“Don’t,” he said softly. “I’m okay, just...not used to it.” He was still hard though. “I’ll get used to it, and I’ll tell you if I want you to stop, okay?”
“Okay,” she agreed, wrapping her hand more tentatively around him this time as she dipped her head, licking against the head of his cock.
“Fuck!” he hissed, his whole body shuddering,
She waited for the apology and smiled when it didn’t come. That was more like it. She liked him like this, less careful and she wasn’t going to waste the opportunity as she lowered her head more, taking him properly into her mouth as he spasmed and shivered above her.
“Annie, Jesus!” he hissed, making her glance up to see his hands balled into fists, fighting the urge to push them into her hair most likely, cos that wasn’t how you treated a lady, was it? That wasn’t nice and McNair was always so nice and respectful, She just needed to make him completely forget that fact - tap into his alpha maleness. It was a risk, but what was the worst that could happen?
The moment her mouth closed round him his fingers curled into her hair as his hips raised, pushing himself further into her.mouth.
After that he only lasted a minute or so before he came, and she could taste him, bitter and salty and unmistakable.
A moment later his hands fell from her hair.
“Annie,” he said, and she could already hear the apology in her name.
“Don’t,” she replied, licking her lips as she sat up. “That was good, right?”
“That was...incredible,” he agreed.
“Then don’t apologise. That’s what I wanted. That was my plan. To show you a very good time after a horrible, sweaty day at work. Did it cool you down?”
“Mostly,” he admitted. “Til that last bit that...got the blood flowing.”
“You can take that shower now,” she offered. “Or you can just stay here, not like I can smell you.”
“Or you could join me,” he suggested.
“Or that,” she agreed.
“Sorry,” he said.
Annie rolled her eyes at him. Him apologising for every little bit of bad language was wearing thin, especially since most of his so called bad language didn’t even register. “I’ve told you, stop apologising! Or at least swear properly and make it worth it!”
